The Cliff House

Perched 30 meters high on a secluded cliff on the western coast of Kythnos, we envisioned a retreatclimbing upwards along the rocky cliffside. One with the wild, rocky landscape, this 204 m2 residence overlooks the deep blue of the Aegean Sea. Situated in the quiet bay of Trivlaka, referencing the 3 bays shaping this stretch of coastline, the property will offer unmatched seclusion to its owners.

Kythnos Cliff House is shaped in natural stone like the local architectural vernacular. The home appears camouflaged and is intended to blend in with nature and not to interrupt. The square shape of the three integrated cubes that differ in height and volume break the organic scenery with its geometric aesthetics.

Purposely made of smaller volumes, the trio of cubes gives access to an array of terraces accommodating shifts in wind and sun.

Inside, the stone and glass building reveals a carefully curated space where design and art meet comfort and sophistication. Together with sun-drenched sea views a contemporary, Scandinavian minimalism will flood each spacecreating anelevated design experience in harmonious dialogue with its surroundings.

As a doorway into Vipp’s collection of furniture, kitchen, lighting, and accessories, the interior emits a Scandinavian sensibility merged with Mediterranean charm. Dosed with art pieces and local curiosities, the home takes on a character full of Aegean allure. Curated quality will linger in every corner from soft furniture textiles to the all-aluminium Vipp V3 kitchen granting an industrial edge to an organic space. With an interior adding luxury and comfort to island life, the frame is set for future owners to easily transition to the soothing rhythm of Kythnos.

Once completed, a private path leads you down to the seafront deck, where guests can take in the unspoiled views to the islands of Hydra and Peloponnese. A dive from the cliffs into the salty sea, unveils an ocean bed covered in white marble cliff stones giving the water its turquoise traits.

The true Greece

Named after the son of the God Apollo, Kythnos was a mythical king worshipped by the first inhabitants on the island. Given the Aegean Island atmosphere, its people, its traditions, and flavours this island does seem truly blessed.

With 100 km of shoreline and 90 beaches, you can always find a beach all for yourself at Kythnos. As a gem in the Cyclades that has not experienced the same tourist influx as other islands like Santorini and Kos, Kythnos is known among locals as ‘the true Greece’. Most visitors are Athenians visiting a second home benefitting from its proximity to Athens and the port of Piraeus. From here, a ferry or speedboat takes you to Kythnos and leaves behind the chaotic city life in stark contrast to the bohemian, slow-paced life that awaits on the shores of Kythnos.

Sigurd Larsen is a frequent visitor to the island with abundant experience in property development through his emblematic ‘Piperi House’ – a project that caught the attention of Vipp Residences who subsequently commissioned the development of Kythnos Cliff House.

Sigurd’s insights into the singular Cycladic culture and architecture are translated into his drawings and choice of materials for Kythnos Cliff House, now under construction on the western shores of the Island.
